And Pretty Maids All in A Row

My mother says hollyhocks are always Late Latifs. Well look at these, strutting their stuff now, when the rest of the garden is going into a decline. Hollyhocks bring memories of the garden of my childhood home in Delhi.
My sister Viji would walk me around the lawn, and she would would make a 'doll' for me using a flower and a bud. Can you imagine how thrilled a little girl would be to get a doll which looked like a princess with a flowing gown?

This is the first time we've managed to grow hollyhocks like these. It's a joy to share them here.

Not sure if it's a problem with my computer or yours, but I can't see any of the pictures of the hollyhocks. (there are pictures, right?)
How imaginative to make a doll out of these flowers! They would have made lovely princess dolls!

Found your blog while bloghopping and stayed to read the archives - you lead such an interesting life! (Not in the Chinese sense!)

Love your garden...and Hollyhocks are a prime favourite of mine, purely I'm afraid, because of the low maintenance :-) I am now on a quest to find myself a star-fruit tree...I had never seen a picture of one before, though I love the fruit and pay exorbitanmt prices for it now (upto 2 USD per fruit at times!).

The hollyhocks are beautiful. This year for the first time I will plant hollyhocks in my garden. I can't wait to enjoy them.

Lovely hollyhocks - as is everything else in your garden.

As for the Viji plucking off the buds, and making princesses, (they are lovely), do you mean to say Maiji never noticed the missing buds, or lessening blossoms??!!
